Festival History

The Knights of Jerusalem Festival has been held since 2009, introducing a broad Israeli audience to historical European culture and historical fencing.

The project grew out of the Knights of Jerusalem club, founded by Denis Zlatopolsky and Oleg Morozov in the early 2000s. In its early years, the club focused mainly on armored and stage fencing, with the aim of demonstrating the technical richness of historical martial arts.

In 2009, Grigory Tamar began producing the Knights of Jerusalem project. With his support, the first international medieval culture festival “Knights of Jerusalem” was held and became an annual event.

Today the festival brings together historical fencing, reenactment, music, dance, crafts, workshops and family activities. The club also continues to develop historical martial arts, including the HEMA Jerusalem branch.
